Armstrong Community Music School remains committed to serving Austin by providing excellent music education opportunities to all. ACMS has been fortunate as an organization to maneuver most classes and lessons to an online format during the shelter in place period. This includes free programming provided at several locations serving many of Austin’s most underserved populations as part of our Harmony Initiative. As a nonprofit organization ACMS always welcomes and seeks financial support to stay on track with the costs associated with keeping these commitments. Your unrestricted contribution ensures that ACMS will continue to provide these opportunities while offering stability for faculty and staff.

Music Classes for Ages 3 to 6 Years

Your child is at the age where their world is beginning to open up. They're becoming more independent and ready to join classes by themselves as a "big kid." They will want to explore and ask about the things around them even more. That's what our drop-off music classes for big kids are all about.

Our classes for ages three to six create a musical environment where your big kid can thrive. Challenging and fun music activities complement your child’s preschool music curriculum or help prepare them for individual music lessons. Plus, your son or daughter will build life skills such as leadership, decision-making, and teamwork.

Through class activities like drumming, game songs, improvisation, composition, and conducting, your big kid will be well on his way to a lifetime of joyful music-making.

Music Together (ages 0 - 5 years) Class length: 45 minutes Music Together is a series of mixed-age classes featuring music, playful movement activities, and instrumental jam sessions for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. A parent or caregiver must accompany children to class.

Canta y Habla Conmigo™ (ages 0 - 5 years)
Class length: 45 minutes Canta y Baila Conmigo is an exciting new class where music learning goes hand in hand with Spanish immersion. You and your child will be transported as you sing, dance and play along to the irresistible sounds and rhythms of Spanish speaking countries. Suitable for children ages 6 weeks – 5 years accompanied by a caregiver.

Little Drummers, Big Voices (ages 3 - 5 years) Class length: 45 minutes These weekly 45-minute classes are designed for children ages 3-5 years. Students learn about different musical styles and the terminology that describes them so that they can put words to whatever music they are hearing: presto or lento; piano or forte; a march or a waltz. They are introduced to instrument families and have the opportunity for hands-on exploration of some of the instruments. Throughout the session, children also develop their singing voices and make musical crafts.

This class can be taken as a preparation for or in support of individual instrument lessons. It offers children a complementary approach to focusing on one instrument alone.

Music for Little Mozarts (ages 4 - 6 years) Class length: 30 minutes Group Piano is here at Armstrong Community Music School with Music for Little Mozarts. Students join the adventures of Beethoven Bear and Mozart Mouse as they learn about music and the piano. Music for Little Mozarts helps students develop singing and music listening skills, and at the same time, provides a bridge between the discipline necessary for playing the piano and the fun of making music.

Family Ukulele Class length: 45 minutes A weekly ukulele class for the whole family. Learn familiar tunes everyone will enjoy at home. This class embraces mixed-age learning – parents and children learn at different paces, but both bring home skills and enjoyment they can share for years to come. No prior musical instruction necessary. Enrolled children must be able to sit unassisted and hold a ukulele; a minimum age of 4 is strongly suggested.

Drum Circles Class length: 60 minutes Learn some beats, try different types of drums, and make some noise! This is an energizing community activity which will have you all playing together in no time. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
